Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires each year and everyone at AlarmSouth wants to make sure your home and family stay safe.
Before your family starts cooking know how to prevent, and what to do, in case of fire.
Kitchen Fire Safety Tips
Check Smoke Detectors
Make sure all smoke detectors are working correctly and replace batteries if needed. We also suggest keep extra batteries on hand at all times.
Check Fire Extinguishers
Have more than one fire extinguisher in your home and make sure they are easily accessible and are are working correctly. In many cases one mom or dad know how to use a fire extinguisher, but it is a good idea to teach everyone in your household how to properly use a fire extinguisher and are comfortable doing so in the event of a fire.
Have a Fire Escape Plan
It is important to plan how you will escape your home in th event of a fire - not just for the main floor near the kitchen, but for every floor in you home including upper floors and basements. Consider a fire escape ladder or slide to help escape from upper floors. Visit the National Fire Protection Agency for escape planning downloadables, videos and tips on how to talk to children about a family escape plan.
Know Turkey Fryer Safety
If using a turkey fryer this Thanksgiving, take extra precautions and know the right way to use it. Turkey fryers can be extremely dangerous when used incorrectly. Even a small amount of cooking oil spilled on a burner or grassy surface can cause a large fire.
