How to test my alarm system.

A question we are often asked is, How do I test my alarm system? Or How often should I test my alarm system? We recommend testing your system weekly or at least on a monthly basis. When it comes to testing your alarm the very first thing you should do is call your local Central Station and have them put your system in test mode.

You do this by giving the operator your name, address,& passcode/password to verify your idenity. Once they have verified you then you tell the operator,"I would like to test my system.". (typically the system will be in test for 8 hrs. or until you request it to be stopped.)

Now that your system is in test ensure all of your windows and doors are closed and the system is in the Ready to Arm state. At this point you will arm your system as if you were leaving your home. Once the system is armed open a door, window, or step in front of a motion detector to activate the alarm. Allow the alarm to sound for at least 45 seconds to 1 minute prior to disarming it. This will verify that your audible alarm is workingproperly as well. Once the system has been silenced and reset you will contact your Central Station to verify signals.

***NOTE***While in test, any/all signals will be logged only. There will be NO action taken until the test expires or you request it to be taken off of test.

It's recommended that you test your alarm at least once a week.

If you are uncomfortable testing your alarm yourself contact your Alarm Company and have a Service Technician scheduled to perform a Security Check for you.
